LanMay Farm with Richard MacKenzie | Richard MacKenzie is the fifth generation MacKenzie living on LanMay farm in Maitland, Nova Scotia. The MacKenzie homestead is 1850 circa. Richard’s passion is to preserve and appreciate his living heritage while using horses for as much farm work as possible and by restoring the barn and house on the property.Richard also shares the history of Maitland, Nova Scotia with its rich heritage once a prominent ship building community. Richard’s great, great grandfather was a boot and shoe maker as well as a currier and tanner making shoes for the community. His great grandfather was a stevedor unloading the ships with horses and his grandfather drove the rural mail for many years by horse. In this production, Richard shares his experience of working with horses while driving his Percheron team on a pioneer forecart with a chain harrow going over pastures. Richard discusses the McCormick Deering mower and what he has learned from his mentors and his own trials and errors.
